The final ride

Another year and another special ride is almost complete. I'm sure many riders are experiencing mixed emotions on their final ride. I know I did, especially on my inaugural ride to Austin with a very special team. We had faced adversity, much like every team did this year with cold and rainy conditions, which pulled the team closer and created a strong bond that has continued over the years. Almost nothing matches the mixed emotions of the final ride...you're glad you have arrived and yet you don't want it to end! You are eternally grateful to the volunteers who have gone way 'beyond' to ensure your safe and comfortable arrival. 

You have just completed something truly remarkable, unique and in support of one of the best causes ever, Wellspring and cancer survivors. In a couple of days, the best part of this experience will begin, when you reunite with the warriors and challenge riders who are travelling to Austin to participate and celebrate the weekend with you. 

Congratulations riders, I hope you will take the time to soak it all in, especially the final ride! You and your volunteers are truly special! Have a fantastic weekend!!

The countdown has begun and, although I won't be riding with the peloton again this year, I remain excited for those experiencing this challenging but wonderful experience for the first time. You guys are in for something you will never forget...ever! In a few days you will have lost complete track of time and what day it is. However, you will take comfort in knowing that your efforts are helping a lot of people through the important services provided free by Wellspring to cancer survivors and those impacted. Hat's off to you...wishing you the best of weather and godspeed!
