The final ride

Here come the hills!

"Fantastic job" to the whole gang...riders & volunteers. Cycling at night in the rain can be 'special' to say the least (..flashback to '07). Hopefully the night-time temps stay up. Thanks for carrying the Cancervive flag in this years' edition...we're proud of you.

Now, on to the hills! The next couple of shifts are gonna be great FUN (ouch!) through the Black Hills!! Stay safe...

Precious Cargo

Just received a text from John Flegg that he is 70 mi north of Lubbock, TX "Buddy Hollyville". All is good, bikes are safe...whew! Peloton riders in the area, watch for an all white truck/trailer with Alberta plates!!

See you in Austin!!!

First of all, "great job" to all the peloton riders and volunteers who are braving the elements and losing much sleep as they carry the Cancervive logo across the continent as ambassadors in support of this great cause! The mention of cold, freezing temperatures at night brings back a few memories...

Day 2 - Team Serendipity

Team 4 had a fantastic (but cold) night ride today. Rita summarized nicely (see below) but I'd like to thank all on the team for their determination to press on despite ever colder conditions as the night progressed. Great teamwork! Thanks Brian for taking over on the tandem just before we reached our largest climb of the day.
I was also extremely please to be updated on my father's progress which, for today, appeared brighter. Dad, my thoughts are with you constantly during this journey. Hang in there!

Day 1 - Prologue

Today we all had a great "teaser" of a ride, Calgary to Leduc, which was probably nothing like the ride we're going to face over the next week. It allowed us to shake some cobwebs, flush out who the jokesters might be and get familiar with our team-mates. I was fortunate to have rode the tandem with Kevin, who didn't realize that I wasn't really taking business calls on the cell instead of just trying to get out of pedalling! Kevin, keep up with the carbs man, you were great!

A Tough Day

As the saying goes, some days are tougher than others. Today was indeed a tough day...between the dozens of emails working out final details of this year's ride, and keeping tabs on my father's radiation treatments in Saskatoon, I received a call that Wellspring co-founder John Stephure had passed away last night and that a rider on our team had to withdraw after a diagnosis last week. Sometime life really seems to suck! On the other hand, we're constantly reminded of why we do what we do.
