Hometown: Calgary
Occupation: TELUS - Director, Business Development
Warrior: Dr. Joe Haws
Motivation: Last year I participated in this amazing event and I was so inspired by everyone and everything associated with Cancervive I’ve decided to ride again. This event certainly has an infectious personality. My wife Deborah was so moved by all the people associated with Cancervive, she's decided to join me in this year’s challenge.
My personal motivation continues to be my mother who lost her fight to Leukemia in 1982 at the age of 56. I was fortunate that my mother was still living when I cycled from Toronto to Ft Lauderdale, Florida in 1981 in an effort to raise money for Leukemia Research. I’m even more fortunate that after all those years; I’m still healthy and fit enough to take part in an event such as “Cancervive”.
Wellspring does incredible work for those who are fighting or surviving cancer and their work inspires all associated with the Cancervive family, but when cancer affects close friends and family, participation becomes personal. This was the case for both Deb and I, as our very close friend Dr Joe Haws (my Warrior), who is a prostate cancer survivor. We witnessed the emotional and stressful affects cancer had on Joe and his wife Terry. We also witnessed Joe and Terry’s unified and unwavering determination to win over this disease. Through the support of each other along with their many friends, family, an excellent medical team, Joe is living hope for other men that have been diagnosed with this potentially deadly disease.
Your support of Cancervive is greatly appreciated by the families that use the services offered by Wellspring.
