Hometown: Cochrane
Occupation: Family Doctor
Warrior: TBA
Motivation: I first heard about Cancervive and the Peloton Project about 5 years ago when I met a fellow who was hoping to ride. Then 2 years ago a closer friend of mine fundraised and did the ride to Philadelphia and I was so impressed as I learned more about the amazing commitment and efforts of Cancervive and the riders and the often life-changing (even life-saving) effect of the ride on some of the cancer warriors.
Last year I attended some Cancervive functions and got to know more of the people involved and hear Brian's story and I followed every moment of the 2009 ride by the daily blog. I put a young friend, Owen, recently diagnosed with cancer and a Lance Armstrong fan, in touch with a rider, and he became his warrior for the 2009 ride, except that Owen died before the ride and was not able to be at the San Jose celebration. This was probably the single thing that made me determined to commit to do the ride myself for 2010. I am riding for Owen, and for many other friends that I have lost to cancer over the past 20 years but also for all the people I know that wake up every day facing cancer full on. I love the fact that Cancervive raises money for Wellspring, whose commitment is not to research and treatment, but to making a positive difference in the daily lives of individuals and families living with cancer..
PS Darlene Kozub and I are the lucky representatives this year of the ongoing Cancervive Cochrane connection--Vanessa, Vanessa, Bobby, Linda, Jimstick--and of course Peggy, and John Stephure!
