Bill & Lavina Gilliland

Hometown: Calgary

Occupation: Cycling parents!

Warrior: Jennifer Fong-Turner & Susan Eyre

Motivation: CANcervive impresses us by its emphasis on the positive – survival. The whole organization exudes enthusiasm and encouragement. The training, time and teamwork needed to be a part of The Peloton Project to Austin makes for an exciting and challenging journey. Being a part of it will show our children, Sage (7) and Rory (9) what can be done with determination and discipline.

While we have gone on many cycling trips, this one adds a meaningful dimension. Like most people, we know too many who are currently surviving s – Joanne Wohlford, David Laidlaw, John Mendham, Jasmine Virji, Sarah Fitzmaurice, Theresa Morin, just to name a few.

The warriors we have chosen to sponsor as part of this project are especially dear to us. They are not only close friends, but mothers of young children who are close friends of our own children, as are the fathers to one another. They are all woven into the very fabric of our lives. We dedicate our ride to them - Susan Eyre and Jennifer Fong. Their strength and wisdom are an inspiration. We will see them at the finish line in Austin!!

Our fundraising efforts are just in the beginning stages and already we have been overwhelmed by the support we have received in so many different ways. We appreciate your contribution in whatever form that takes.

You, our friends and family, are the wind at our backs! Thank you.

Bill and Lavina Gilliland

PS. July 29, 2010
Sadly, our warrior, Susan Eyre, passed away today. Her 10 year old son NIgel will stand in her place when we arrive in Austin.
