Bow Cycle’s rich history is a testament to its enduring commitment to cycling and community. From its origins in 1957 as a small sporting goods store in the then-independent town of Bowness, Alberta, it has evolved into a pillar of the Canadian cycling community. Jim and Mary Sibthorpe's dedication to quality products and service laid the foundation for what has now become one of Canada’s premier bicycle retailers. Their sons, Jim Jr. and Brian, took over in 1982, steering the business through decades of growth, recessions, and market changes, ensuring its success.
In 2005, the torch was passed to a new management group made up of longtime employees, including John Franzky, Darrell Elliott, Kurt Christensen, Kevin Senior, and Dave Leung, joined later by Joel Sibthorpe. This transition culminated in 2015, securing Bow Cycle’s future while continuing its path of growth. The expansion into electric bikes with a new store in Calgary's East Village in 2021 marks yet another milestone in their journey.
